Slow food dining

It was cloudy when we woke up this morning, and by the time we had breakfast it had started to rain and it continued for several hours, not very heavy, but the air temperature was much cooler.

Before lunch I had the home Communion set to prepare for Monday' visit to Sanyasol in Velez Málaga to meet nongenarian Ian, then the weekly pewsheet to print off, and my sermon for tomorrow.

The sky cleared in the afternoon, clouds driven by a warmer wind from the south-west - unusually changeable weather. We went for lunch at the Mirador de Guilches restaurant and found it closed for a private function, so we went to the Mesonera de Nerja instead. It promotes itself as a quality gastronomic experience, food very locally sourced ingredients and cuisine.

Ann and Clare shared a seafood pizza, which they pronounced delicious and I had a skewer of char-grilled chicken and veggie chunks with thin sliced potatoes fried gently just to softness. Delicious. The content of the skewer too charred to my taste. It really was an experience of 'slow food' as marketed. Fifty five minutes from ordering a drink with olives to having the meal on the table, it was in a pleasant relaxed friendly environment, which matters a great deal, if you're not very hungry.

Then we walked a while on the clifftop path, before driving back up to the house, where I left to girls to go for a proper long walk, up to the hill top, all the way back down to the post boxes, and then back up again. Lots of slow steep climbing, with stops for the off photo, and to recover breath. A good way to clear the head and burn of a few calories. I didn't feel like eating at supper time, only walking, and just a light snack sufficed before bed.
